Charles Allen "Butch" Hudgins, 74, Rising Sun

Charles Allen "Butch" Hudgins, 74, of Rising Sun, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, in Dearborn County.
Born February 9, 1949, in Nashville, Tennessee, he was the son of Charles Elmer Hudgins and Claudia Elizabeth (Jones) Hudgins. He married Sandra (Meredith) Hudgins on July 15, 1972, and she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters- Melissa Godwin (husband Steve) of Birmingham, Alabama, Sandra Whitney (husband James) of Hope, Claudia Sears (husband Ryan) of Rising Sun; two brothers- Ross Hudgins (wife Marsha) of Fairview, Tennessee, Tommy Hudgins (wife Rhonda) of Fairview, sister- Linda Storey of Goodlettsville, TN; six grandchildren- Samantha Whitney, Victoria Godwin Partain, Ashley Sears, Jennifer Whitney, Americus Sears, Kristen Whitney; one great grandchild PJ Garcia. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson John Charles Godwin, brother Randy Hudgins, two sisters- Earlaine Kelley, Sandra Civils, and brother-in-law Eddie Storey.
Mr. Hudgins had lived in Rising Sun for one year after previously moving from Avon, He graduated from Fairview High School in Tennesse, and was a machinist for International Harvester for many years and more recently a machinist for CeCor Engineering of Indy, where he retired after several years of service. Butch was a member of American Legion and VFW in Lebanon. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the US Army for 24 years attaining the rank of Major and was awarded the Bronze Star. Butch enjoyed gardening, woodworking, camping, boating, was an avid reader, and enjoyed tinkering around in his garage. He was very proud of his military service, and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery at a later date. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion.
