Barbara L. Whipker, 96, Hope

Barbara L. Whipker, 96, of Hope passed away Wednesday August 7, 2024 at Silver Oaks Health Care Campus.

Born January 18, 1928, in Hope, IN Barbara was the daughter of Wallace and Margaret Wagner Ray.  She married Paul Whipker September 24, 1950, and he preceded her in death on June 27, 2010.

Barbara was a member of Hope Moravian Church and a member of Moravian Kola Class.  She was a 75-year member of Esther Chapter of Eastern Star.  She was also an inactive member of RHO Chapter Kappa Sorority.

Barbara enjoyed cooking, especially making noodles and sugar cakes for the church.  She also loved to crochet, sew and knit.  She loved time spent with her grandchildren and family.

Visitation for Barbara will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 am at Hope Moravian Church.  The service will be officiated by Pastor Andy Kilps.  There will also be an hour viewing at the church on Thursday from 10 am until service time.  Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

Barbara is survived by children, Brenda (Gary) McDonald of Hope, Donald Whipker of Chicago and Paula (Doug) Prather of Columbus; grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Gephart of Bradenton, FL, Suzanne (Tony) McClain of Hope, Lisa (Dustin) McCartney of Hope, Michael (Katie) Prather of Brownsburg and Angela (Joseph) Allen of Columbus; great grandchildren, Katelin Gephart, Joshua McClain, Breanna McClain, Dinah McCartney, Jason McCartney, Hailey Prather, Nolan Prather, Hannah Prather, Abram McCarty, Logan Allen and Heidi Allen and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Maurice Ray and sister-in-law, Nancy Ray.
