Game Report for Week 12/08: Basketball

Boys’ Basketball
@ South Ripley – The Varsity & JV Boys teams traveled south on Friday to take on one of the top 2A teams in southern Indiana, the South Ripley Raiders. The Jets fought hard, but a slow start to the game proved to be too much to overcome, as they fell by a score of 75-62.

The Raiders jumped out to a quick advantage 5 minutes into the game leading 13-4, and held a 22-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Jets fought back with a big second quarter offensive spurt, outscoring the Raiders by 7 to cut the lead to 36-31 heading into the halftime break.

It was back and forth throughout the second half which saw South Ripley extend their lead to 12 points 2 different times, but each time the Jets responded to trim the lead back down to 4 points. Unfortunately, the Jets could never get it closer than that, as the Raiders made enough free throws down the stretch to hang on and seal the victory.

It was a tough offensive night for Hauser as they struggled to a 35% shooting mark from the field compared to South Ripley’s 55%. South Ripley moved their record to 4-0 and the Jets fell to 3-1.

The JV Jets kept their season record undefeated as they got a win over South Ripley, 70-46.

Boys’ C-Team Basketball
@ Indy Lutheran v. Scecina – The C-Team traveled to Indy Lutheran on Saturday December 7th to participate in the C-Team Tournament. In the first round Hauser took the court to defeat Scecina 47-17. Scoring for the Jets Peter Taylor 12, Issac Fuller 11, Philippe Eugene 7, Curtis Kilps 5, Camden Grimes 4, Tishawn Lisby 4, Aiden Bense, Koleson Gernentz, and Adyn Dempsey 2.

@ Indy Lutheran – The C-Team lost in the Championship 44-39 in a very good game to Indy Lutheran. Scoring for the Jets Tishawn Lisby 8, Philippe Eugene 7, Camden Grimes 7, Curtis Kilps 6, Isaac Fuller 4, Peter Taylor 3, Aiden Bense 3, and Koleson Gernentz 1.

@ Trinity Lutheran / v. Batesville / @ Crothersville – Hauser C-Team traveled to Seymour to face the Trinity Lutheran Cougars on Monday night. Hauser came out the fight with a win 49-46 win to move to 4-1 on the year. Scoring for the Jets was Curtis Kilps, Peter Taylor, and Philippe Eugene 8, Aiden Bense 7, Koleson Gernentz 6, Tishawn Lisby 4, and Camden Grimes 2. The Jets will host Batesville on Tuesday with basketball starting at 6 p.m.

The Jets hosted Batesville on Tuesday winning on a last second basket by Curtis Kilps with seven seconds remaining. The Jets are now 5-1 and will travel to Crothersville on Thursday.

At Crothersville on Thursday the C-Team again jumped out to an early lead and never looked back moving its record to 6-1 and winning all three games this week. The Jets will travel to GCA on Tuesday with basketball starting at 6 p.m.

The Jets traveled to Crothersville on Thursday and won to move to 6-1 on the year and end the week undefeated. The Jets will travel to GCA on Tuesday and host Milan on Wednesday and Morristown on Thursday.

Girls’ Basketball
Varsity @ Shawe Memorial – The Girls Varsity Team traveled to Shawe Memorial on Tuesday night to face a very good Shawe Memorial team. The Jets trailed 11-9 after the first quarter, with June Berkenstock scoring 7 of her 9 points in the 1st quarter. The Jets claimed a 19-14 lead with just under 3 min. to play in the half but let Shawe Memorial ended the half on a 17-2 run to take a 31-21 half time lead. Shawe Memorial maintain its high paced offense and outscored the Jets 18-5 in the third quarter and the Jets outscored the Hilltoppers 11-8 to a final score of 57-37. The Jets were led by Norah Berkenstock with 13 points. MaxPreps Player of the Game Willa Wetzel scored 5 points in the second half and provided a nice spark off the bench. Braelyn Williams and Abby Manley both scored 3 points, and Haven Hartwell and Chloie Phelps had 2 points. The Jets are now 6-4 on the year and will host South Decatur on Thursday.

v. South Decatur – The Jets hosted MHC rival South Decatur for a JV and Varsity game on Thursday. The JV Jets defeated the Cougars and moved to 7-4 on the year. Nevaeh Paetzel scored 13 points and “The Game Changer Award” winner Leah Manley scored 9 points. Ava Dempsey scored 9 points, and Kaydenze Brock scored 5 points. Abby Stacey and Peyton Norris both scored 2 points for the Jets. The Varsity was defeated and moved to 6-5 on the year. The Jets were led by Norah Berkenstock’s 17 points, while June Berkenstock had 9 points. The Jets had Braelyn Williams and Abby Manley score 3 points and Haven Hartwell and Willa Wetzel both scored 2 points.

The varsity Jets will host Edinburgh on Friday night for a girl / boy doubleheader.

7th / 8th Grade Boys Basketball
v. Brown County – The 7th and 8th Grade Jets hosted Brown County on Monday. The 7th Grade Jets won 33-27 in a grinder of a game. Hauser never had a lead until Noah Blankinship hit a 3 from corner to take a 28-27 lead with 1:57 to go. Prior to that Lane Wiwi hit a basket to cut Brown County’s lead to 2.

The Jets pressure defense late in 3rd quarter helped cut the lead from 13 down to 7 and then carried over into the 4th where Hauser held them scoreless. The 7th Grade moved to 10-2 on the year. The 8th Grade also defeated Brown County 48-38 to move to 9-2 on the year. Stuckey and Wiwi carried the Jets with Wright out sick. Stuckey ended with 20 points and Wiwi pitched in 10 points. Linke had 7 points and Seal scored 4 points, with Raisor and Carman both scoring 1 point to round out the scoring for the Jets. Both teams travel to South Ripley on Tuesday with basketball starting at 6 p.m.

@ South Ripley – In a very quick turn-around the Jets traveled to South Ripley on Tuesday night and the 7th grade again had a battle on their hands. The Jets this time won 41-33 in overtime. Jets were led in scoring by Blankinship and Brown (all points in 4th and overtime) each with 12, followed by Leonard with 8, Wiwi had 6, Henderson 2, and Noble with 1 point. 

Coach Blankinship said, “I’m very proud of our resilience in the 4th quarter and OT in a back-to-back situation." 

The 7th Grade Jets are now 11-2 on the year. The 8th Grade Jets were defeated 53-31 and moved to 9-3 on the year. Stuckey again led the Jets with 14 points, and Raisor scored 6 points. Wiwi chipped in 5 and Linke had 4, with Carmen scoring 2 to round out the scoring for the Jets. Both Teams will end the week at Immanuel Lutheran with basketball starting at 6 p.m.

@ Immanuel Lutheran – The 7th and 8th Grade Jets traveled to Immanuel Lutheran on Thursday to end a very busy week.

The 7th Grade won and moved to 12-2 on the year and the 8th was defeated to move to 9-4 on the year. Both Teams will host Northside Middle School on Wednesday with basketball starting at 6 p.m.

HOPE
