It’s mushroom season, Folks, and that means the Student’s Fund of Hope’s Morel Mushroom Fundraiser has returned!
The delicious seasonal treats are $50 per pound with $20 of each sale returning to the SFOH.
Expert morel mushroom identifier and first responder Devon Pruett is once again the man responsible for helping to make this fundraiser possible. As a first responder, giving back to community fire departments is important so Pruett will donate five percent of all mushroom sales the Hope Volunteer Fire Department.
The mushrooms are handpicked in the Pacific Northwest and flown overnight to ensure freshness and are inspected by expert morel identifiers when they land.
As soon as orders are picked up, Pruett recommends customers store mushrooms in the refrigerator in a container that allows the mushrooms to breathe – like a brown paper bag. Check on them daily and immediately remove any mushrooms that appear to show any signs of degradation, such as softness and early signs of mold.
Those who place orders should be prepared to pick them up with relatively short notice. Once notified, orders will be available for pickup at the SFOH Hub, located at 321 Washington St. in downtown Hope.
Place orders by visiting the Student’s Fund of Hope HERE.
The sale will remain open through the first of May or until they're gone -- whichever comes first, says Whitney Budd, founder of the SFOH.
As this is a very popular fundraiser and the mushrooms tend to go quickly, the SFOH asks those who know people who may be interested to send them to the Fund’s website or collect orders on behalf of the Fund. Those who opt to collect orders on behalf of the Fund, please direct message the SFOH HERE for more information.
