Dwight Emerson Carter, 80, of Hope, passed away Monday November 18, 2024 at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born April 23, 1944 in Columbus he was the son of Emerson Carter and Dorothy Robertson Carter. He married Sara Deiwert September 10, 1988 and she survives.
Dwight retired from Cummins Engine Co. after 31 years of service.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hope where he served as deacon, trustee and Sunday school superintendent. He served as chairman of Hope Heritage Days Parade Committee for 23 years and was parade Marshall along with his wife Sara in 2012.
He enjoyed basketball, golf and riding motorcycles and was an avid I.U. fan.
Dwight’s survivors include children, Rob Archer of South Bend, Indiana, Piper Spurgeon (Jon) of Trafalgar, Indiana, Dustin Carter of Tampa, FL. and Ryan Archer (Liz) of Edinburgh, Indiana; grandchildren, Zachary and Lexi Archer, Jeremy (Heather) Collins, Megan Hogan, Lane and Haley Spurgeon, Lauren Carter and Maddy and Carly Archer, Eli Smith and James Robbins; great grandchildren, Emily, Braxton, and Katie Lynn; brother, David Carter of Denmark and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
There will be visitation for Dwight Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. with an hour visitation before the funeral from 10 until 11 a.m. Pastor Dennis Chasteen will officiate Dwight’s service.
Memorial contributions may be donated to First Baptist Church of Hope.
Dwight’s remains will be cremated after service and his cremains will be buried at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents.
Dwight had suffered with Alzheimer’s for 7 years. He is with the Lord now and has his jump shot back.
