William J. “Billy” Harber, 87, of Hope, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Brightwell Behavioral Health, Clarksville, IN. Billy was born on December 14, 1936 in East Bernstadt, KY to A.J. Harber and Lorine Riddell Harber. He married Lovonda J. Griesinger on November 13, 1964.
Billy was a proud 1955 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School. After graduation, he embarked on a fulfilling career with AT&T, from which he eventually retired. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated and knowledgeable professional who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
From the young age of 15, Billy was passionate about HAM radio operation, a hobby that allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life across the globe. His call sign was familiar in many circles, and he was respected for his skill and dedication to the craft. Billy's love for technology was only matched by his love for his two cats, Fritz and Sassy, who were his constant companions.
A man of faith, Billy attended Hope First Wesleyan Church, where he found a community of like-minded individuals who shared his values and beliefs.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor John Marquis officiating. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. Monday until service time at 1 p.m. Private entombment will be held at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
Survivors include his wife, Lovonda Harber; son, Doug (Carol) Harber; grandchildren, Mistina (Jim) Rednour, Josh (Tani) Harber, Emilee (Justin) Miller, Terrie Hawkey, Shannon Callahan, Tina Callahan and Jamie (Kevin) Tymitz; son-in-law, Harold Callahan.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Lorine Harber; daughter, Linda Callahan and brother, Shirl Harber.
