Joey “Big Joe” Ray Hibbs, 79, of Hope passed away Thursday September 26, 2024 at his home.
Born September 12, 1945 in Erie, KS he was the son of Orval E. Hibbs and Myrle L. Vanderford Hibbs. He married Linda Cox May 15, 1976 and she survives.
Joe is also survived by sons, Tim Hammack (Rhonda Ballard) of Columbus, William “Bill” (Mary) Hammack of Columbus and Joey (Melanie) Hibbs of Hope; grandchildren, Skylar (Dusty) Hammack of Columbus, Abby Hammack of Columbus, Dyllan Hibbs of Columbus, Zoey Hibbs of Hope, Derek Stenneski of Hope, Isaac Stenneski of Columbus, Bonnie Stenneski of Columbus, Dalton Maxwell of Columbus, David Young of Tokyo, Japan, Jenny Lopp of Columbus and Lynsey Laswell of Hope; several great grandchildren; great niece Megan Batton who was like a daughter; great-great niece and nephew Kaila and Wyatt Batton who were like grandchildren; sister, Sondra Slattery of Hartsville; sister-in-law, Lois Matthews of Columbus and several nieces and nephews.
Joe retired from Cummins.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of a purple heart. In his previous years he enjoyed dancing, riding motorcycles and doing woodworking.
Visitation for Joe will be Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. A service will follow at 2 p.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Adam Carrington. Burial with military graveside services will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Patty Walls, Doris Piper, Karen Cardinal; brothers, Richard Hibbs, Roger Hibbs and Wilbur Hibbs.
