When I was a little girl, I loved gathering in my brother’s room and climbing on the bed while my dad read a story. My favorite stories came from the 1962 set of Collier’s Junior Classics books, Volume One, titled ABC, GO! I adored listening to my father read “Henny Penny,” “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” and my absolute favorite of all, “Wynken, Blynken, and Nod.” My Dad’s soothing voice along with the beautiful illustration holds a special place in my heart. All was well until my brother Lee stopped my dad from reading and asked, “Dad, how do you think they wired that fixture on the ceiling?” I did not want to “talk shop” during story time, and this rattled me to my core! I should ask my brother today what his recollection of this story was.
If you miss having a story time as an adult, then come and join me at the Hope Library for Adult Story time. Come and listen as you are taken away to a different world with adults’ short stories, essays, and poems. We may even read a children’s book that has humor in it that only an adult can appreciate. While listening, you can just sit, journal, or color. We may have a discussion, or not, after reading.
Through the months of June and July, the mornings are filled with wonderful stories told by Mr. Dave. The schedule will be available at the beginning of June, and everyone will meet in the Bandstand on the Hope Square. This is story time at its best for all ages. Mr. Dave is an expert storyteller and will keep everyone guessing what he will read each week. I love the different voices he uses as he spins a tale or two!
If you have time to drive over to the Main library in Columbus, then be sure to catch the various story times available for the little ones. The schedule and times for these are listed on the library’s website HERE. For story times to share with your children, check out our vast array of titles from our “Tumblebook” library. This site can be found on our app or website. The kids can listen to and/or watch videos of books as well as reading along with the story they choose.
Do not forget that we have librarians who travel to various schools and read to classes in person. If your child is like my brother and cannot sit still for long lengths of time, then why not take them to Blackwell Park for a story walk! This is a great family time activity when the weather warms up.
So, if you are reading to others or like to be read to, then why not check it out at your favorite library!
