John L. “Les” Brown, 60, of Columbus, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at his home. He was born on October 30, 196,4 in Columbus, IN, to Rev. John “J.C.” Brown and Glenda Bradshaw Brown.
Les made his mark on the world as a self-employed carpet and flooring installer. His work, characterized by precision and dedication, left a lasting impression on the homes and businesses of Columbus. His professional reputation was one of reliability and craftsmanship, qualities that extended into every area of his life.
Les most recently attended Pleasant Valley Church in Gnaw Bone. He was an accomplished pianist, filling the air with beautiful melodies that echoed his passion for life. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter, a pastime that spoke to his love for the outdoors. As time went on, he found solace in fishing, a hobby that allowed him to enjoy the serenity of nature. He also enjoyed training and certifying dogs over the years but above all, Les cherished the moments spent with his family, who were the cornerstone of his existence.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2025, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Garris and Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 202,5 at the funeral home. Les will be laid to rest at Old Union Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
Survivors include his mother, Glenda Brown of Columbus, IN; children, Natasha (Darrell) Mills and Leslie Zachariah (Jessica) Brown both of Columbus, IN; brothers, Kevin (Angela) Brown of Hope, IN, Scott (LaShaunda) Brown of Horse Cave, KY, Michael (Julia) Brown of Columbus, IN; sister, Lisa (Shayne) Smith of Columbus, IN; sister-in-law, Sonja Brown; grandson, Logan DuLong; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful four-legged friend, Gypsy Rose “Gi Gi”.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. J.C. Brown; his brother, Gregory Glenn Brown; and nephew, Landyn Brown.
