Howard C. Andrews, 97, Columbus

Howard C. Andrews, 97, of Columbus, passed away on February 15, 2025 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Born on September 17, 1927 in Indianapolis, Howard was the son of Ora G. and Mabel Jayne Andrews. He married Maribell Scofield on September 15, 1946, and she preceded him in death on February 21, 2021.

Howard retired from Cummins after over 50 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was a member of St. Louis Crossing Independent Methodist Church and a past member of Christians in Action Organization. Howard was the last surviving classmate of Clifford High School Class of 1945.

Howard enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his family. He was an avid fan of attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors include his children, Marie (Bill) Hill of Columbus, Delores (Warren) Mahaffey of Hope, and Sandy (Tom) Miller of Hope; grandchildren, Jason (Lori) Hill, Matthew (Kathy) Hill, Casey (Mason) Bolton, Cory (Jillian Spalding) Mahaffey, Justin (Emilee) Miller, Chad (Nicole) Miller, Jacob (Tanna Coombs) Miller, Gabe (Erika) Miller, and Adam (Marie) Miller; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Wallace of Columbus and Maxine Bumbalough of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by parents; sisters, Julia Cook and Lenora Hull; infant sister, Dorothy Andrews; brothers, James Andrews and Homer Dale Andrews.

A funeral will be held for Howard on Friday, February 21 at 1 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Dillingham officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to Riley’s Children’s Hospital.
