Sergeant Clayton Gregory White, 31, Jacksonville, Fla. (formerly of Hope)

It is with unfathomable heartbreak and devastation, the family of Sergeant Clayton Gregory White, a proud veteran of the United States Army, announce that Clayton passed away on December 20, 2024 as a result of a vehicle accident in Jacksonville, Florida.

Clayton joined the United States Army in February 2015. He valued his service highly and with tremendous pride. Clayton had been stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Camp Casey, South Korea, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina with a primary specialty in the Multiple Launch Rocket Systems and High Mobility Artillery Rocket System Crew.  He served until being honorably discharged in May 2021.

The son of Alise Clay Pate of St. Marys, Georgia and Michael White of Plainfield, Indiana, Clayton grew up in Hope and Danville, Indiana. He was born May 22, 1993, in Columbus, Indiana. Clayton graduated from Hauser High School in 2012. Clayton was currently attending J-Tech Institute in Jacksonville, Florida and was near completion of receiving his Diesel Technician degree.

Clayton is survived by his parents, daughter, Leralynn Savannah White and son Easton Peter White of Jacksonville, Florida, Grandfather Jay White of Indianapolis, and aunts, uncles and cousins. Clayton was proceeded in death by grandparents Peter and Anita Clay of Hope, Indiana and Jane White of Indianapolis. 

Clayton’s loved ones will remember him for his love and dedication to his County, his gift for photography, capturing many images for The Hope Star Journal newspaper, and his passion for aviation and special interest and knowledge of military aircraft. 

Clayton’s visitation will take place at Norman’s Funeral Home, Hope, Indiana on Sunday January 5, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Funeral service will take place at Norman’s Funeral Home on Monday January 6, 2025 at 1 p.m. with visitation beginning at 12 p.m.   Military Honors Grave-side service will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Pastor Troy Taylor of Woodbine, Georgia Church of God. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Norman’s Funeral home, 604 Main Street, Hope, Indiana.
