Carolyn “June” Gilliland, 97, entered her heavenly home on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
June was born in Kansas, IN near the Camp Atterbury area on November 1, 1927 to Hubert and Mary Elizabeth Miller Renner.
She moved to the Hope area in Junior High School and was the last surviving graduate of the 1945 class of Hope High School.
June retired from Public Service of Indiana and still enjoyed meeting for lunch monthly with a group of lady retirees. After her retirement, she worked for several years at the Hope Star Journal.
She was a member of the Hope Moravian Church and the former Kola Sunday School Class. She was a very active member of Rho Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority for 73 years. In 2023, June was honored to be chosen as Grand Marshal of the Hope Heritage Days parade.
She was an avid fan of Hauser High School sports, never missing games of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking, baking, and working jigsaw puzzles. For several years, June was known as “The Noodle Lady” and made and sold noodles until two years ago.
Survivors include children, Nancy Berkenstock, Joyce (Steven) Garrison, Donald (Kim) Gilliland, and Lisa (Tony) Garrison; grandchildren, Brent (Tonya Blackburn) Berkenstock, Ryan (Natalie) Berkenstock, Joshua (Kayla) Bean, Michael (Maytee) Garrison, Jeremy Gilliland, Kacie (Travis Trible) Garrison, Keri (John Bense) Garrison and Matthew Garrison; step-grandchildren, Steven D. Garrison, Eric (Katie) Allman, and Dustin (Angel) Allman; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; brother, Ralph Renner; and several nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Wayne Edward Gilliland; brother, Norris Dale Renner; and sisters, Bertha Mae Sneed and Clora Marie Mize.
A funeral will be held for June on Thursday, January 23 at 11 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hope Moravian Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
