Betty L. Jordan Summers, 91, Hope

Betty L. Jordan Summers, 91, of Hope, passed away on July 2, 2025 at her home.

Born on May 31, 1934 in Troy, IN, Betty was the daughter of Herman and Elsie Weller Jordan. She married John Summers on February 9, 1951 in Rockport, IN, and he survives.

Other survivors include children, Cindy (Gary) Owens of Seymour, Kim Summers of Plainfield, and Dan (Angie) Summers of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Becky Summers of Hope; grandchildren, Debbie (Danny) Cowart, Stacy (Andy) Burkman, Tina (Marlyn) Guss, Casandra (Gabe) Richardson, Erin (Scott) Hodge, Ben (Shantel) Summers, and Courtney (Austin) Fisher; multiple great- and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In her younger years, Betty worked at General Electric and later worked at the Fashion Shop. She spent most of her years as a mother and taking care of her family and their home.

She was a member of Rugby United Brethren Church and Hope Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary.

Betty cherished the time she spent with her family. Her favorite pastimes included anything she did with her family such as fishing, bowling, and playing cards and board games. One of her joys was dancing with her husband, John, often to the sound of their favorite music.

Visitation hours will be held for Betty on Tuesday, July 8 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home. A committal service will follow at Hawcreek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Thomas Summers and siblings, Herman E. Jordan, Jr., Robert W. Jordan, Jerry W. Jordan, Patsy M. Duke, Nina L. Schoolcraft, Delsie J. Nix, Rita F. Haaff and six siblings who passed away as infants.
