When the Milan sectional kicked off Tuesday, the Jets took off from the tip and never looked back.
Hauser led at halftime 51-8, and went on to an 80-26 win over Shawe Memorial to advance to the semi-final game against Trinity Lutheran. Hauser had five players in double figures scoring, and almost a sixth. Ledger Gelfius led with 14, Collin Buck, Gavin Keller, and Taeshaun Tungate with 12 each. Stryker Gill had 10, Waylon Harper 9, Jentzen Bechtel 5, Jacob Bell, Tyler Deiwert, and Bill Miller with 2 each.
In Friday’s Semi-final game the Jets flight was delayed, getting off to a slow start as the Cougars took advantage with a 6-0 lead. Hauser Jr. Gavin Keller hits the Jets first basket with 5:20 left in the first quarter to start a three-minute 11-0 run. Cougar Bode Brooks stopped the Hauser streak with a three-point basket. Senior Alex Cord sparked the Jets with 7 of their 16 first quarter points.
Going into the halftime break Hauser held a slim three-point 27-24 lead. Trinity had possession to start the second half and Sophomore Isaac Darlage hit a field goal to pull within a point. The Cougars would claw no closer as the Jets hit the turbo scoring the next 15 points. Stingy man to man defense gave Hauser steals and easy baskets.
Hauser coach Trent Moorehead was pleased with his team’s effort, especially their defense in the second half. Hauser ran away with a 63-40 win to advance to Saturday night’s championship against host Milan. Keller led the Jets with 18 points followed by Cord 15, and Buck with 12. Rounding out the scoring: Tungate 8, Gill 6, and Gelfius 4. Gill also had 10 assists and 6 steals.
The Jets moved their record to 22-3 on the season.
