Have you ever checked out the “explore” bar on the Bartholomew County Public Library website at mybcpl.org, and then clicked on “All Online Resources?” The website is packed with all kinds of information, but the online resources have some valuable tools for everyone to use. The BCPL resources are listed alphabetically. I am going to tell you about some of my favorites.
It seems as if people are always asking for computer help in some form or another at the front desk in the library. With the “Computer Help with GCF Learnfree” application you can click on various tutorials such as computer basics, computer science, and tech savvy tips and tricks. Each of the tutorials tells what is covered and has an AI assistant to guide you through the program.
Another free app to help learning about not only technology, but also languages, test prep, and more are the “Gale Courses.” There are over three hundred free educational courses offered that last no more than six weeks usually. These virtual courses are also taught by educators in the specified field you choose.
The next three apps on the Online Resource page are all particularly geared for the Hope community.
First, there is a link to the Hope Star Journal Online newspaper that you are reading from right now! It is easy to navigate, and as always is free!
Second, there is a link to the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corporation to check on school events, breaks, closures, etc.
Lastly, a link to the Hope Rural Letter Carriers Museum. This is so interesting for young and old alike. There are pictures and a written history from the Yellow Trail Museum about the longest continuous rural delivery in Indiana. There are also some county histories and items included from around the United States. The artifacts are so fascinating to look at. I really enjoyed seeing the Blue Mail Hack that was built in the 1800’s at the Neligh Carriage Shop in Hope.
So, whether you need help with educating yourself about technology, learning a new language, peeking at the school corporation’s break schedule, or just browsing HSJ Online then make sure you click on the “explore” bar on the BCPL website for this and so much more. Of course, we are still always available to help you out with any library-related questions at the front desk. Be sure to check it out!
