Robert Earl Romine, 78, of Freetown, passed away on May 3, 2025 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Born on September 3, 1946 in Columbus, Bob was the son of Horace and Maxine Slusher Romine. He married Cheryl Blanford on October 22, 1984, and she preceded him in death on October 15, 2009.
Bob served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He retired from Cummins after 41 years.
Bob was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed hunting, going to auctions, traveling, and watching his grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Teresa Vanarsdall of Shelbyville, Robin (Chris) Steinway of Trafalgar, Danielle (Jon) Hollenbeck of Columbus, Josh (Katie) Romine of Thompson Station, TN, Missy (Kyle “Rudy”) Rutan of Columbus, and Darcy (Billy) Mobley of Columbus; grandchildren, Francis, Emily, Skylar, Talan, Tinsley, Ryker, Bethany, John, Caela, Abbigal, Zakary, Collyne, Willa, Chezney, Brentley, Elias, Kilyn, Cole, JoAnna, and Kyler; 7.5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mark (Carol) Romine of Hope, David (Twila) Romine of Columbus, and Mary (Gilbert) Pardieck of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cheryl; children, Tammy Romine and Kyle Romine; siblings, Barton Romine and Katrina Pope; and nephew, John Romine.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 9 at 3 p.m. at Newbern United Methodist Church with military rites being conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Cremation will follow services.
