Gloria A. Smith Harker, 84, Columbus

Gloria A. Smith Harker, 84, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday October 1, 2025 at Four Seasons Health Care Center.

Born July 15, 1941 in Shelbyville she was the daughter of William Denzil Smith and Marian Berneda Billingsly Smith.  She married Rev. David L. Harker September 24, 1961 and he preceded her in death.

Before retirement Gloria was self-employed in the car care business.

She was a member of Washington First Baptist Church and a previous member of First Baptist Church of Hope.  In both churches Gloria was involved in Jr. church, children’s church and the youth ministry.  She was also involved in the Women’s Mission Society and taught Sunday school for many years.  At Washington First Baptist Church Gloria organized the Shoebox Ministry.

She enjoyed Golf, reading and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

A funeral service for Gloria will be Tuesday October 7 at 11 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. Tim Baxter officiating the service.  Visitation will be Monday October 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday Oct. 7 one hour prior to service.  Burial will be at Hawcreek Church Community Center Cemetery.

Monetary contributions in memory of Gloria may be donated to Washington First Baptist Church Shoebox Ministry, 100 E. Walnut St., Washington, IN 47501.

Survivors of Gloria are daughter, Lynann (Bill) Young of Tyler, TX and Scot(Jennifer) Harker of Columbus; grandchildren, William (Allie) Young of Tyler, TX, Jennifer (Alex) Knowles of Tyler, TX, Jonah Harker of Columbus, Avery Harker of Columbus; great grandchildren, Alexander Knowles and Elizabeth Knowles of Tyler, TX.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
