Game Report for Week 09/01: Volleyball and Tennis

Volleyball
@ South Ripley – The Hauser varsity volleyball team struggled to find rhythm Tuesday night, falling in straight sets to host South Ripley: 19-25, 15-25, 11-25.

Despite the loss, several Lady Jets turned in solid individual performances. Charleston Gelfius led the offense with 8 kills, while Regan Mack added 3 and Hayden Dickey chipped in 2. Leah Manley ran the offense with 10 assists, supported by Hayden Dickey and Regan Mack with 3 apiece.

At the service line, Kaidenze Shoaf recorded 2 aces, while Charleston Gelfius and Leah Manley each added 1. Defensively, the team was led by Hope with 13 digs, followed by Hayden Dickey with 12 and Regan Mack with 11.

At the net, Charleston Gelfius tallied a solo block, while Regan Mack and Peyton Norris combined for a double block.

The Lady Jets will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue to gain experience and build momentum this season.

v. Indy Lutheran – The Hauser volleyball team came up short in a home contest against a tough Indianapolis Lutheran squad, falling in straight sets: 21-25, 16-25, 9-25.

The Jets showed early fight in the opening set but were ultimately unable to keep pace with Lutheran’s consistency and pressure as the match progressed.

Despite the loss, several Hauser players turned in strong individual performances. Charleston Gelfius led the team at the service line with 3 aces, matching Kaysie Kistler total, while Kaidenze Shoaf added 2. Offensively, Charleston also led with 4 kills, followed by Peyton Norris and Regan Mack with 3 apiece.

Leah Manley ran the offense effectively, notching 11 assists. Defensively, Hope Bailey anchored the back row with 9 digs, Hayden Dickey added 7, and Leah Manley chipped in with 5.

At the net, Charleston was a force with 1 solo block and 2 double blocks. Regan and Hayden each contributed a double block as well.

Boys Tennis
@ Milan – The Hauser boy’s tennis team continued its strong season with a 4-1 victory over Milan, showcasing dominant performances in singles play and a commanding win at No. 1 doubles.

James Oliver set the tone early at No. 1 singles, blanking his opponent Tyler Shaffer 6-0, 6-0. Joel Bechtel followed with another solid showing at No. 2 singles, defeating Seth Thomas 6-1, 6- 2. Graydon Kilps completed the singles sweep, taking down Josh Caylor 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of RJ Foster and Kameron Blair cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Wyatt Phelps and Langston Huneke. The Jets’ only loss came at No. 2 doubles, where Brady Miller and Jacob Bell battled hard but ultimately fell to Milan’s Bryce Blackburn and Seth Thomas in a tight three-set match, 4-6, 6-2, 5-7. With the win, Hauser continues to build confidence as the team heads deeper into the season.

@ Oldenburg Academy – The Hauser boys’ tennis team earned another solid victory on the court Thursday evening, defeating Oldenburg Academy 4-1 with strong showings in both doubles and singles play.

The Jets swept the doubles courts with commanding performances. At No. 1 doubles, RJ Foster and Kameron Blair cruised past Jack Freeland and Zach Phillips, 6-1, 6-0. The No. 2 duo of Jacob Bell and Graydon Kilps followed suit with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Grant Hartwell and Grant Wanstrath.

In singles action, Joel Bechtel secured a win at No. 2 singles, defeating Grant Rosenberger 6-1, 6-2. Brady Miller picked up a victory at No. 3 singles via forfeit. The Jets’ only loss came at the top singles spot, where James Oliver fell to Clay Eckstein in a hard-fought match, 5-7, 2-6. The win continues Hauser’s strong run (4-0) as they build momentum heading into the heart of the season.

@ Eastern Hancock – The Hauser boys’ tennis team faced a tough matchup against Eastern Hancock, falling 1-4 in overall match play.

The lone win for the Jets came at No. 1 doubles, where Kameron Blair and RJ Foster put together a strong performance to defeat Jalen Helderbrand and Ross Wennen in straight sets, 6 2, 6-4.

In No. 2 doubles action, Brady Miller and Curtis Kilps were unable to find their rhythm, falling to Teddy Hannah and Parker Robertson, 0-6, 2-6.

On the singles side, Hauser struggled to gain ground. At No. 1 singles, James Oliver was defeated by Luke Zeilinga, 0-6, 0-6. Joel Bechtel battled in the first set at No. 2 singles but ultimately lost to Luke Fletcher, 4-6, 1-6. At No. 3 singles, Graydon Kilps fell to Josiah Swanger, 3-6, 1-6.
