Judy Mae Maupin, RN, MSN, 87, of Commiskey, passed away at 8:57 a.m. on August 11, 2026. At Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born December 10, 1938, in Madison County, the daughter of the late Oliver Evans Sporleder Sr. and Margaret Louise (Smith) Sporleder. She married Gilbert Maupin on August 23, 1959, at the North Vernon Baptist Church; he survives.
Judy was a 1956 graduate of North Vernon High School; she received her R.N. Nursing degree in 1959 from Kentucky Baptist Hospital and then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1972 and her master’s degree in nursing in 1987 both from Indiana University.
Judy was the Director of Clinical Practice and Administrative Support and Senior Clinical Advisor for 40 plus years before retiring from Columbus Regional Hospital on January 1, 2004. She was a member of the American Nurses Association, Indiana Nurses Association and District 13, Indiana Organization Nursing Executives, Emergency Nurses Association, Intravenous Nurses Society, Indiana and National Nursing Staff Development Organization, Magnet Hospital Project Leader, and Bio-Ethics Committee Member.
Judy was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church and a former member of the Flatrock Hawcreek School Board where she once served as president, Adjunct Facility Indiana University Purdue University in Columbus, former member of the First Baptist Church, in Seymour, Educator of EMT’s and Paramedics, a past member of First Baptist Church in Columbus, and member of the Diaconate Board.
Judy held honors in Sigma Theta Tau, National Honor Society for Nurses, Seach for Excellence Award, Indiana 1993, Indiana State Nurses Association and Sagamore of Wabash.
Judy enjoyed sewing, quilting, photography, gardens, and flowers.
Surviving with her husband of 66 years, Gilbert; is her son, Griffith (Debbie) Maupin of Bargersville; daughter-in-law, Diane Maupin of Centerville, Ohio; sister, Anita Verner of Wyoming; grandchildren, Emily (David) Brown of Columbus, Ohio, Brent (Hope) Maupin of Centerville, Ohio, Bradley Maupin of Chicago, Illinois, Brian (Nicole) Maupin of Centerville, Ohio, Stefan (Kaitlyn) Maupin of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Nicholas Maupin of Austin, Texas, and Kyle Kline of Bargersville; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gregory Maupin MD; brothers, Oliver E. Sporleder Jr. and Michael Sporleder; and sister, Joyce Neese.
A funeral service for Judy will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dan Cash officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Judy to the Tea Creek Baptist Church Youth Group.
