WindRose Health Network in Hope

On March 22, 2024, I was among many who received an apologetic letter from Scott Rollett, CEO of WindRose, regrettably announcing the closing of their pharmacy in town after two years of service. I then sent a letter to Scott expressing that our community was heartbroken by their closing, including Teresa Turner, who was an invaluable employee, while doing enough research to understand his statement about the pharmacy industry being in a “state of great disarray.” It also resulting in our previous pharmacy closing, Hope Wellness Pharmacy. Scott was kind enough to respond while stating that WindRose would continue their facility in the Goshen Meadows area, with the hope of expanding services there, while also remaining supportive of Hope. Undoubtedly, Scott and the company have stayed true to their word.

I have gotten to know Dr. Sarah Ward, Director of Community Health Affairs, who has been with WindRose for a long time. Sarah has been in contact with me in my role with “HSJ Online”, as well as Jenn Guthrie, our Content Coordinator, in keeping us and Hope informed through sponsoring an “HSJ” ad that goes directly to their website if clicking and through emails, phone calls, and in person.

Long-time Hope resident, Shirley Robertson, has served on the WindRose Board of Direcrtors since inception and is quite proud that our small community offers such needed medical assistance. It all started in 2006 when Shirley, as Hope Town Treasurer, and Lowell Miller, of the Hope Chamber of Commerce, and others approached WindRose leadership to see if they might have an interest in another rural facility. Shirley stated that Lowell's heart was a strong presence in meeting with Scott Rollett and Mike Kolenda as well as others from Hope and WindRose. All felt it could be quite beneficial, and a small grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture was seed money.

WindRose in Hope actually started in a 900 square foot corner of the Community Center. The Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation gave the project $50,000 to remodel the Community Center space. In 2010, they received a $100,000 USDA grant, a $609,870 ARRA grant and a $84,932 grant from the ISDH to build the current 9,000 square foot building. As they looked to expand, a spot for the center was identified, and Larry Misner, Hope, sold the land for the facility at a very reasonable price. Sharon Downey Waltz, Hope, joined the Board of Directors later and is now acting Secretary while Shirley is an emerita member. They meet regularly, are proud of how services have expanded, and look forward to the future.

Dr. Radovanovic is the new pediatric provider. You may have noticed the sign with children just off State Road 9. She joins Dr. Tsunoda, who is board-certified in family medicine. Chiropractic services are coming soon. Dr. Sweet and Dr. Pacilio, two individuals who loved Hope and loved providing their chiropractic services, have certainly been missed.

Sarah stated: “At WindRose, our commitment to Hope goes far beyond the walls of our clinic. We are proud to stand alongside our community through meaningful partnerships that support families and neighbors at every stage of life. Each month, we collaborate with an Indy Diaper Source to provide free diapers and wipes to infant caregivers, helping ease a very real burden for many families. Twice a month, we work with Gleaners to offer free food to patients, recognizing that nutrition is a vital part of overall health.

“We also believe deeply in showing up where the Hope community gathers-supporting Hope Heritage Days, serving as an annual sponsor of Main Street, and being a part of events like Breakfast With Santa, the Easter Egg Hunt, the HSJ Hope Run/Walk, and other community traditions.

“We aren't just caregivers in Hope-we are residents, friends, and neighbors. Many of us live here, raise our families here, and share in the every day moments that make this town special. We care deeply about Hope, and it is a privilege to serve this community, not only through healthcare but through connection, partnership, and trust.”

Scott added: “We are proud of the partnership built in Hope over the years and remain focused on strengthening services, supporting patients, and planning responsibly for the future. As WindRose marks 20 years in Hope and 30 years as a health network, we are proud of the relationships that have been built and the trust the community has placed in us. While healthcare continues to face significant challenges-especially in rural communities-our commitment to Hope remains strong. We look forward to celebrating this milestone together and continuing to serve the community with purpose and integrity.”

On their website, you find four focus areas: Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Prenatal Care, and Behavioral Health. And you will find the following remarks: “We listen to your needs and concerns. We use the latest diagnostic technology. We provide compassionate preventative care and evidence-based treatments.” There are 189 reviews on Google with a 4.9 rating, indicating strong support from their present clients.

Recently, I read an excellent article in “The Republic” by Jenn Pellegrino, “Rural health care crisis is front and center,” which presents concerning information about the state of health care in rural areas. One of my priorities in writing this article is to ensure our community is aware of WindRose Health Center in our town, its medical team, and the programs they provide. They are a Federally Qualified Health Center, open to all people, regardless of insurance status or income level. You may not be able to see their wonderful facility from State Road 9, but it has a definite presence in Hope. They are pleased to be serving their present clients and have the necessary space and team to serve more patients. WindRose will be hosting a community open house later this year, offering residents an opportunity to tour the clinic, meet providers and staff, and learn more about current and upcoming services. They are located at 163 Butner Drive in Goshen Meadows. Their phone number is 812-546- 6000 should you be interested in making an appointment or meeting the team.
