Jerry Allen Gardner, 86, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and the grace of our Lord.
Born on June 22, 1939, in Manilla, Indiana, he was the son of Lon Gardner and Margaret (Pitts) Gardner. Jerry was a quietly devoted follower of Christ, a loving husband to his wife, Marilyn, a protective father to his daughter, Beth, and a proud grandfather to his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jerry retired as a design engineer, where his career was marked by intelligence, curiosity, diligence, and a talent for problem-solving. Yet, his greatest pride came from sharing his passions with his family.
He will be remembered for his fierce love, protective nature, and the countless moments he spent shaping and supporting those he loved most. Jerry faced life with a strong will; even in his determination, his heart was always centered on his family.
In his youth, he played basketball—a passion he later shared with his firstborn grandson. He was also a devoted fan of Indiana University basketball and rarely missed a chance to follow the Hoosiers. Jerry loved the outdoors, finding joy in nature, especially during his many cherished trips to the mountains and Lake Michigan, where he found peace, beauty, and a sense of renewal.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughter, Beth; his five grandchildren, Kevin (Jason) Birdwell (Emily), Amber Wolf (Steve), Adryann Birdwell, Richard (Richie) Arkanoff, and Emma Arkanoff; and his four great-grandchildren, Jasper Barker, Taylor Gaede, Caleb Birdwell, and Carter Wolf.
Jerry Gardner leaves behind a family who will carry his memory with love and gratitude.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Caring Foundation at the Homeview nursing and rehab in Franklin IN to bless staff members in need.
